7-8-03 We did recive permission from 1101 about a week ago to post the tapes, however due to server limitation, and lack of recording capabilities for the long distance tapes (use cell phone for free LD) we have decided against posting audio of the tapes on this site. WE ARE EXTREEMLY DISAPOINTED IN THE DELAY ONCE AGAIN IN THE ARBRITRATION CASE, THAT SHOULD HAVE RENDERED A DECISION IN FEBUARY, THAT NOW WILL NOT BE UNTILL THE 11TH OF THIS MONTH!
6-29-03 It is of NO supprise that none of those emailed for permission to post audio of the union tapes has responded as of yet. This project will begin to take form late tonight, and tomorrow, and should be online by the first of july.

6-25-03 Long time since this page was updated, most of the focus has been on the union tapes section. I have requested permission from each local to post audio of there tapes on this website, hopefully they will respond favoraballay. Also I request that YOU send in your photos of tehs working unsafley, to be fowarded to the proper union local. These photos will not be published publicly, or sent to Verizon. The idea of the photo project is to put pressure on the union to ensure employees are working safley, providing better job security, and giving laid off members a better chance to be rehired.

5-29-03 email sent to the head of the CWA and the head of CWA district 1, as well as most of the executives at VZ. This email asks when might laid off workers return to work if the arbritration ruling is in favor of the CWA, and we return to work. Any responses will be located on this page as they become avalible. Unfortunatllay I feel this email will either be unanswered, or answered with as much uncertainty as the laid off workers as myself already have.

5-17-03 Acording to cwa1101.org it appears that there will not be any layoffs based on this new "surplus". It only leaves doubts in my mind that perhaps the union has sold out those who have already been laid off in order to keep those still working for the company? This also seems like a reasonable accusation based on the fact that on the same page this is mentioned, it also mentions training and scolorships for laid off members. click here for 1101's tape message with this info if it is updated, it has been mirrored HERE.

5-12-03 As the decision for the arbritration and the strike come closer we are faced with further uncertanty of the outcome, and what the right course of action will be to take. Many rumors are going around. I will post what I hear, and all of my attempts to find out what is happening and post all of the results, and information that I recive once it becomes avalible.

To the right I have placed a list of any facts and/or rumors that I have come across regarding the current and future situation. I did not begin any of theses rumors, and they may be true or false. Once a rumor is determined to be false it will be noted that it is belived to be false. Once a rumor is confirmed to be true, either by the union or company, it will be stated as a fact. Rumors are gathered thru various sources and may not be accurate. Facts are confirmed by the company, and or union, and proof of facts will be posted whenever possible.

FACT: Verizon plans on further layoffs of aprox. 1300+ in NY alone.
(5-17-03 according to cwa1101.org there may not be any further layoffs at this time!)
FALSE: The arbritration decision is being pushed back from July 9th to sometime in October or November.
(According to the CWA as of 5-13-03 the decision is still scheduled for July 8th 2003)
FACT: The company may hire laid off members durring the strike to perform work while the union is out on strike.
(Confirmed by CWA 5-13-03)
FACT: The union wants laid off workers that are called to work for the company durring the strike to walk across the picket line and pick up a job, and then walk out and join the picket line.
(As of 5-13-03 according to CWA members who do this are entitled to "strike benifits", hopefully those benifits will be provided by CWA for us to post here)
FACT: The outcome of the strike will either make or break the union!
